Cheap last mile transport solutions are the hour of need for our cities which are perpetually under the grind due to decisions that have negative environmental consequences and require superior, efficient, and clean mobility solutions. Apart from other modes of transport even electric rickshaws are a viable solution for offering sustainable and economical las mile mobility solutions in urban and peri-urban communities.

Ipower Batteries is now selling Lithium-ion batteries, which weigh 50-60% less than lead acid batteries, and possess a 25-50% greater storage capacity, and are hence apt for the increasing demand for e-rickshaws that do not need frequent charging as they could run for longer distances. With the prices of lithium cells dropping substantially, lithium battery-based e-rickshaw are witnessing a mass-scale implementation. It provides improved battery efficiency as it has a mileage of 100+ km on a single charge, fulfilling the requirement for eco-friendly transport solutions.

Ipower Batteries has experienced a rise in demand by nearly 3 times over the last 6 months, as compared to the same six months a year ago, which indicates the anticipated demand of these batteries growing significantly in FY 2025-26 compared to FY 2024-25.

The company has announced supplying over 100,000 KWh lithium batteries e-rickshaw to over 30+ customers Pan India. Some of the major names being Gayatri e-rickshaw, HMC, Avon, Greaves, Lohia to mention a few. The common size of battery in demand are usually 2.5 KW, 5KW, 6KW, 7.2 KW, 12 KW for different passenger and commercial e-rickshaws. To facilitate hassle-free distribution the company has also consolidated its dealership network in states of Delhi NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The next expansion leg includes Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra. Its key values are also commitment towards the customer satisfaction which they have achieved through their robust network of after sales support of 250+ service centers located in various places and 150 field engineers to serve the end customer. 10,000+ Ipower batteries are also been running by one of the top swapping operators in e-rickshaw markets. With remote monitoring ability and trustworthy product by Ipower contributing 2000+ new batteries every month in the Indian swapping market.

Ipower spokesperson Mr. Vikas Aggarwal, Founder & MD was quoted on the same “The demand for e-rickshaw has been increasing making it an efficient and viable mobility solution for all kinds of needs and we are prepared with our large-scale capacity production to meet the demand for the same in a timely manner.”.

Although we admit the need we have also made these batteries smart and secure with our latest remote monitoring features allowing the driver to be hands-on with real-time updates. There is also strong government support that favors manufacturers and consumers in adopting e-rickshaws. It has the support of financial incentives, subsidies, and beneficial regulatory environments, which is a major enabler for propelling the demand in the electric rickshaw market in India, unlocking clean, sustainable and efficient mobility solutions not just for our cities but for the rest of the country” The size of the India electric rickshaw market was worth USD 1.29 Billion in 2024. And is likely to reach USD 1.5 Billion this year. The market is also anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 14% from 2025 to 2034, reaching USD 3.29 Billion by 2034.

Further, affordability of e-rickshaws supports improved income generation for drivers, which in turn leads to entrepreneurship or self-employment, helping the India electric rickshaw market growth.

But loader e-rickshaws are gaining increasing electric rickshaw market share in India because they are being increasingly used by distribution and e-commerce companies owing to their ability to carry heavy loads without having to sacrifice on fuel-efficiency and delivery time. Several loader e-rickshaws are currently undergoing the ‘electrification’ process, which will further add to demand for them.
