The 56th Earth Day in 2025 has the theme of “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET,” calling on everyone on the planet to come together behind renewable energy, and to triple the amount of clean electricity generated globally by 2030. ANGEL YEAST(DEHONG) CO., LTD (SH 600298) has resonated with the Earth Day call by presenting a green response.
On April 2, Angel Yeast Dehong was officially certified as a Class I three-star “Zero-Carbon Factory” by the China Quality Certification Center. This achievement marks Angel Yeast’s first zero-carbon factory, a milestone that signifies the company’s strong commitment to green and low-carbon operation and support for sustainable development.
Zero-Carbon Factory: Stepping beyond Emission Control to Net Zero
A “Zero-Carbon Factory” is a cutting-edge green factory that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by employing energy-saving technologies, the use of renewable energies, and negative carbon measures. Any residual emissions are offset by carbon neutralization schemes, with the aim to “reduce as much as possible.”
DEHONG’s achievement of the “Class I three-star” certification targets Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect energy emissions), requiring self-reduction and offset ratio exceeding 50% for remaining emissions. Through the application of strategies including photovoltaic power generation, biomass energy replacement, and carbon footprint tracking, DEHONG has formulated an overall framework for carbon reduction that covers the entire process chain, creating a standard for the green development of the Angel Yeast Group. DEHONG’s recent certification has also further enhanced the group’s strategy of sustainable development to a new level.
Wu Xiaofeng, Department Head of Production Management and Assistant to the General Manager at Angel Yeast, emphasized, “Energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and green production are fundamental pillars of our growth strategy. Through innovation, we’ve built a holistic carbon reduction framework covering product design, greenhouse gas reduction, and carbon offset measures. We are also actively greening our production processes with cutting-edge energy-saving equipment and eco-friendly technologies to reduce emissions across our operations.”
Clean Energy Revolution: From Green Electricity to Biomass Substitution
In 2024, Angel Yeast’s carbon reduction actions concentrated on revolutionizing its energy framework by encouraging adoption of clean energy, making transformative breakthroughs. Angel Yeast decreased carbon emissions by 210,500 tons this year through these actions, including utilization of 129,673 megawatt-hours of green electricity alone, which accounted for a 72,200-ton decrease in carbon emissions.
Angel Yeast also promoted the installation of solar power plants and the implementation of biomass substitution for coal. The firm produced 176.7 megawatt-hours of electricity from solar panels and bought 122,800 tons of biomass steam, reducing carbon dioxide emissions indirectly by 37,500 tons in 2024. Angel led biomass replacement projects across different locations, utilizing 33,600 tons of biomass fuels in 2024, which resulted in a reduction of 40,900 tons in carbon emissions. Biogas recovery and utilization technologies were installed in subsidiaries, recovering biogas and producing steam for production purposes. In 2024, 28.26 million cubic meters of biogas were captured, substituting coal steam and lowering carbon emissions by 59,900 tons.
The group’s subsidiaries are actively seeking equipment energy-saving technology upgrades and performing carbon reduction studies. In 2024, the completion of energy-saving technology transformation projects throughout the company generated substantial annual savings. The projects resulted in lowered electricity usage by 2,309.16 megawatt-hours, water savings of 29,000 tons, and steam savings of 40,000 tons, ultimately lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 13,500 tons.
Angel Yeast welcomes international partners to accompany the process of transformation of clean energy and accelerate environmental innovation. In the future, the company will be dedicated to establishing “zero-carbon factories,” promoting green technology, optimizing energy efficiency, and controlling emissions.
